Lunar Rover – Space Education 3D Puzzle: Explore the engineering behind lunar exploration with the Lunar Rover 3D Puzzle, an educational model that brings to life the vehicle used in the Apollo moon missions. This laser-cut CNC template accurately represents the Lunar Rover, known for its crucial role in allowing astronauts to travel greater distances on the Moon’s surface. Ideal for space enthusiasts, educators, and students, this model provides an immersive way to learn about the technologies that have enabled human exploration of the moon. Suitable for laser cutters, CNC routers, and plasma cutters. Included file formats are SVG, DXF, CDR, PDF. The patterns are available in two standard sizes, usually 1/8th (.1250) and 3mm, but are scalable vectors, allowing you to adjust the pattern size to suit the thickness of your material. Scaling up will enlarge the finished product or reduce it if scaled down. Please see our Scale Calculator for easy adjustments.

Lunar Rover – Space Education

The Lunar Roving Vehicle or lunar rover was a battery-powered four-wheeled rover used on the Moon in the last three missions of the American Apollo program during 1971 and 1972. It was popularly known as the moon buggy, a play on the phrase “dune buggy”.
The LRV was transported to the Moon on the Apollo Lunar Module and, once unpacked on the surface, could carry one or two astronauts, their equipment, and lunar samples. The three LRVs remain on the moon.
The concept of a lunar rover predated Apollo, with a 1952–1954 series in Collier’s Weekly magazine by Wernher von Braun and others, “Man Will Conquer Space Soon!” In this, von Braun described a six-week stay on the Moon, featuring 10-ton tractor trailers for moving supplies.
In 1956, Mieczyslaw G. Bekker published two books on land locomotion. At the time, Bekker was a University of Michigan professor and a consultant to the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive Command’s Land Locomotion Laboratory. The books provided much of the theoretical base for future lunar vehicle development.
A lunar rover or Moon rover is a space exploration vehicle designed to move across the surface of the Moon. Some rovers have been designed to transport members of a human spaceflight crew, such as the Apollo Lunar Roving Vehicle; others have been partially or fully autonomous robots, such as Lunokhod 1 and Yutu. As of 2013, three countries have had rovers on the Moon: the Soviet Union, the United States and China.
